On the morning of August 5, the closing ceremony of the 2025 “Chasing Dreams in China – Fujian Journey” Summer Camp for Overseas Chinese youth was held at JMU. Attendees included Ruan Shiwei, Member of the CPPCC Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPPCC; Zhang Zhihong, Vice Mayor of Xiamen and Vice Chairman of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party; Qiu Weijie, Secretary of the CPC Party Committee of JMU; Shen Canhuang, Deputy Director of the Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPPCC; Deng Biao, Deputy Director of the Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs of the Xiamen CPPCC; Chen Mujin, Full-time Deputy Chair and Secretary-General of the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party; as well as officials from provincial and municipal CPPCC organs, overseas organizing institutions, and JMU’s Overseas Education College.
In his speech, Qiu Weijie highlighted the patriotic achievements of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, a renowned overseas Chinese leader, and emphasized the University’s role as an inheritor of his educational legacy. He introduced the University’s contributions to promoting Chinese culture overseas and advancing cultural and educational exchanges along the Belt and Road. The participants were encouraged to share their experiences in Fujian with relatives and friends abroad, so that more people could gain a better understanding of China’s rapid development and appreciate the unique charm of Chinese culture.
Three representatives from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Myanmar delivered speeches.
Ruan Shiwei and Zhang Zhihong presented graduation certificates to the representatives. The students also presented cultural performances, showcasing their achievements in learning Chinese culture as well as their youthful vitality.
The summer camp was jointly organized by the Committee on Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs of the Fujian CPPCC and the Fujian Provincial Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party. A total of 34 teachers and students from five countries—the United States, the United Kingdom, Myanmar, Thailand, and Canada—participated. During their journey, they visited cultural heritage sites, learned about Fujian’s intangible cultural heritage and folk traditions, and gained a deeper understanding of the patriotic spirit of earlier generations of overseas Chinese as well as the achievements of Chinese modernization.
