Recently, 15 maritime officials from Pacific Island countries, attending the second phase of the “Chinese Language + Maritime Business” training program, visited Jimei University. The program was co-hosted by the China–Pacific Island Countries Poverty Reduction and Development Cooperation Center, the Foreign Affairs Office of Fujian Province, and the Fujian Maritime Safety Administration.  

The delegation toured the University History Museum and the Ship Model Museum, and attended a maritime lecture titled “IALA & Marine Aids to Navigation” delivered by Professor Ke Ranxuan of the Navigation College. The lecture introduced the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), navigation aid systems, and Jimei University’s connection with IALA training programs.  

In recent years, Jimei University has actively responded to initiatives aimed at strengthening China–Pacific Islands cooperation in poverty reduction and development. The University has leveraged its disciplinary strengths in marine sciences to host training programs, such as the 2024 Pacific Island Fisheries Technology Workshop, which provided technical guidance and knowledge sharing for trainees from Pacific Island nations. In 2024, the University was also invited to participate in the Third China–Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Maritime Governance, where it shared its achievements in seafarer training and maritime governance.  

This exchange activity deepened the visitors’ understanding of the University’s academic strengths, research capacity, and talent training, while also building a platform for broader and deeper cooperation with Pacific Island maritime institutions.
