On the afternoon of 14 January, a delegation led by Igor Bachikov, Assistant to the Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia, visited Jimei University (JMU). Wang Jian, JMU’s Vice-President, greeted the delegation. Heads of relevant departments including the International Cooperation and Exchange Department, the School of Computer Engineering, and the School of Science attended the meeting.
Wang Jian extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He noted that China and Russia have maintained long-standing friendly cooperation in the field of education. The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia Strategic Partnership of Comprehensive Cooperation. Furthermore, the two countries will jointly host the “China-Russia Year of Education” from 2026 to 2027, presenting a significant opportunity for deepening partnership between the two universities. He highlighted that since Lomonosov Moscow State University is a prestigious and time-honoured institution of higher learning in Russia, while JMU’s major commitment remains the same as it has been in centuries to building a high-calibre institution, there must be more potentials in collaboration between both parties. This visit would serve as a catalyst to further advance practical cooperation in areas such as professionals cultivation and scientific research innovation, and to establish a long-term, and stable cooperation mechanism.
Mr. Igor Bachikov commended JMU’s recent achievements in teaching and research, while outlining Lomonosov Moscow State University’s profile and its developmental characteristics. He expressed strong willingness to expand multi-tiered, broad-spectrum exchanges and cooperation with JMU, hoping both parties would seize the opportunities presented by the “China-Russia Year of Education” to advance substantive collaborative outcomes.
Subsequently, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on specific cooperative programs, including the establishment of a non-independent legal entity educational institution, a ‘2+2’ joint training programme, the China Scholarship Council's “Russia-Ukraine-Belarus Program”, and the International Cooperation Programme for Cultivating Innovative Talents (joint master’s and doctoral training). A series of consensus were reached.
It is noted that Lomonosov Moscow State University, founded in 1755, is Russia’s largest and oldest comprehensive research university, occupying a leading position within the Russian higher education. It comprises 43 faculties, 15 research institutes, approximately 5,000 faculty members, over 40,000 domestic students, and more than 10,000 international students. It also operates four museums, six research satellites, and four supercomputers. In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, it was ranked 94th globally and first in Russia.
