On September 12, the third China-African Youth Friendship Forum and Summer Camp (Xiamen Stopover) of the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology (DUT) themed “Experiencing both the Digitalized Maritime Silk Road and Charming Fujian” took place at Jimei University (JMU). Nineteen young South African students from the Confucius Institute at DUT paid a 10-day exchange visit to Fujian, covering Fuzhou, Wuyishan, Quanzhou, Xiamen and other cities.
During their tour, the participants visited JMU’s History Museum, the Marine Biological Industry Collaborative Innovation Center, and the Maritime Prefessional Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center. Through these field visits, all the students gained a deeper understanding of Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s spirit as well as JMU’s commitment to “engineering integrated with marine science”. They also expressed their willingness to share their personal experiences in China to friends, and to promote productive and friendly relations between China and South Africa.
The events were also attended by the related leaders of International Cooperation and Exchange Department, Navigation College, Fisheries College and some of JM’s foreign teachers from South Africa.
