On the morning of July 23, accompanied by his delegation, the Portuguese Consul General in Guangzhou, Tomás Azevedo, visited JMU. Vice President Wang Jian greeted the guests.
Welcoming Tomás Azevedo and his delegation, Wang Jian presented an overview of the distinctive marine-oriented education features, marine-related discipline development, and related scientific research achievements of the University. He highlighted that Consul General’s visit to Jimei University as the first stop of his visits to Chinese universities on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Portugal was a recognition of its achievements. Wang Jian also expressed his hope for high-level exchanges and cooperation with Portuguese universities in the fields of marine studies, economics and trade, and sports, aiming to promote economic, trade, and cultural exchanges between the two countries through higher education collaboration.
Tomás Azevedo lauded Jimei University for its long history, gorgeous campus, and remarkable educational achievements. He noted the great potential for higher education exchanges and cooperation between China and Portugal, expressing his willingness to build a broader platform for faculty and student exchanges, scientific research cooperation, and cooperation programs between universities of both countries, thereby establishing a solid foundation for future collaboration and writing a new chapter in Sino-Portuguese educational and cultural cooperation.
Frederico Forte, Consular Attaché of the Portuguese Consulate General in Guangzhou, accompanied the visit. The Director of the University’s International Cooperation and Exchange Department also attended the meeting.
During the visit, Tomás Azevedo and his delegation toured the University’s History Museum.
