On the morning of July 11, the 2024 Cross-Strait Youth Marine Science and Technology Culture Festival and Study Camp, co-hosted by Jimei University and the Jimei District Government, officially commenced at the University. The opening ceremony was attended by Vice President Wang Jian, leaders from the Xiamen Taiwan Affairs Office, Jimei Taiwan Affairs Office, Jimei Cultural and Educational District Management Committee, and leaders from various departments and colleges of the University.
Wang Jian delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the University. He expressed his hope that this event would enhance mutual understanding among young people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, foster profound friendships. He also encouraged them to become leaders in cross-Strait exchanges and participants in the modernization efforts of both sides. He noted that since youth on both sides shared common roots, cultural origins, and language, he looked forward to more Taiwanese youth joining Jimei University. He also emphasized that Jimei University would continue to leverage its strengths to build more bridges of friendship for youth across the Strait.
Professor Duan Cheng'en, assistant professor at Kainan University, delivered a speech on behalf of the Taiwanese participants.
During the ceremony, Wang Jian presented the flag to the camp leader, and JMU student Feng Xiaokuan spoke on behalf of all the participants.
This study camp consists of 40 Taiwanese students from 15 Taiwanese universities and 6 Taiwanese high schools, along with 40 students from Jimei University and Xiamen Ocean Vocational College. They will be paired one-on-one and engage in a variety of activities and courses over the next seven days, embarking on a journey of marine science and technology cultural exploration.
