On April 15, the 61st Higher Education Expo China (HEEC) launched in Fuzhou. Du Yubo, President of the China Association of Higher Education, the former Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, and Lin Wenbin, Vice Governor of Fujian Provincial People’s Government, attended the opening ceremony and delivered their opening remarks. Jimei University (JMU) was invited to participate in the exhibition. As one of co-sponsor universities in Fujian, it organized several academic activities on marine strategies and cultivation of marine talents from Fujian and Taiwan.
Under the theme of “Integration of High-school and Vocational Education, Integration of Industry and Education, Integration of Science and Education”, this year's HEEC is committed to the synergistic development of education, science and technology, and talents. It consisted of exhibitions and academic activities. The exhibition areas totaled more than 120,000 square meters, with more than 1,500 participating institutions and over 100,000 offline visitors. The exhibition includes two major parts: the high-tech equipment exhibition area and the special area. With nearly 40,000 square meters, JMU’s exhibition area included the university exhibition area, the exhibition area of cross-Strait integration and development achievements, and the talents area. It was a great honor to have two distinguished visitors: Du Yubo, President of the Chinese Society of Higher Education, and Ye Sun, Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the Fujian Provincial Committee and Director of the Department of Education.
The exhibition area showcased JMU’s cultural heritage, highlighting the features of “engineering integrated with marine science”, the achievements in talent cultivation, discipline construction, community service, school running with international engagement. JMU President Xie Chaotian also presented the history of the school founder, Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s dedication as well as JUM’s new achievements in recent years.
Additionally, Higher Education Expo this year organized academic activities on the integration and development of cross-Strait higher education. Experts and scholars from universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, guests from universities inside and outside the province, representatives of Taiwanese teachers, and young Taiwanese students studying in Fujian held a lively discussion about the initiatives to promote cross-Strait higher education exchanges and cooperation. It’s reported that President Xie Chaotian delivered a keynote speech titled “Cohesion of Consensus to Build the Frontiers of Cross-Strait Higher Education Integration”.
