On March 14, JMU and the Cambridge Artificial Intelligence Center co-hosted the second Cambridge Academic Leadership Summit on Artificial Intelligence in 2022. Vice President Cao Minjie and Professor Jochen Runde from University of Cambridge delivered speeches on behalf of their universities respectively. Seven student representatives who participated in the Cambridge Academic Enhancement Program during the winter break this year gave presentations of their academic subjects. It is reported that over 100 teachers and students of both universities attended the summit.

Cao Minjie extended his gratitude to the professors of University of Cambridge for their guidance and assistance to the students, meanwhile congratulated 61 students in Cambridge Program of this year’s Winter Break on their successful completion. He pointed out that the successful hosting of the summit once again proved that a block of the international mobility of people as it seemed to be, the pandemic still failed to block the in-depth communication of ideas, the exchange of wisdom and the deepening of friendship. Since last year, more than 170 students have participated in the Cambridge program. The students have not only improved their English, but also gained cutting-edge knowledge, broadened their international perspectives, and enhanced their research and academic abilities.

Illustrated by several examples of applications on leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship, Jochen Runde described the current tremendous value of applied research in artificial intelligence technologies. He attached great importance to project-based learning for contemporary university students to build modes of thinking and seek teamwork. In the end, he envisioned a more far-reaching cooperation between the two universities in more areas in the future.

At the summit, the students made brilliant presentations in English on their multiple research topics such as digital currency, children’s education, quantum algorithm, water surface vehicle path planning, big data and consumption, women’s marital and economic status, and we-media discourse construction.

Despite the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, JMU has never ceased cultivating students’ internationalization abilities. Earlier, by the “Internet + Education” model we have explored online international cooperation resources and conducted online international exchange programs to mobilize more students to get involved in international exchange studies. So far, 673 students have participated in 96 online programs at 21 world-acclaimed universities. According to the questionnaire survey, the satisfaction rate of the online international exchange program on winter vacation in 2022 has reached 99.17%.
